Scottish Shelf Model Applications Summary

The Scottish Shelf Model (SSM) is a computational hydrodynamic model (HDM) that has a vast array of existing and potential applications to all areas of marine science and the wider economy and society. HDMs can give a highly resolved spatial and temporal picture of physical water properties (e.g. currents, temperature, salinity) which would be unobtainable from observations alone. These parameters can be used as inputs to other models, such as ecosystem or particle tracking models, or used to characterise Scotland’s seas.
