Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) (Improvement Service WMS)
This map layer is a Web Map Service provided by a third party. Data is automatically updated and made available by the data owners, but can be viewed in the NMPi portal. For detailed information about layers supplied by third parties, we recommend contacting the data owner directly
Local Authorities have a duty to designate any relevant areas where the air quality objectives are not (or are unlikely to be) being met as Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs). AQMAs must be designated officially by means of an 'order'. The extent of the AQMA may be limited to the area of exceedance or encompass a larger area. Following the declaration of an AQMA, the local authority is required to develop and implement a plan (Air Quality Action Plan) to improve air quality in that area.
Some AQMAs cover road networks, others contain whole settlements. It is up to each LA to define how they wish to create their areas. Ideally this dataset should contain dates that AQMAs were created - though some LAs do not yet provide such info with their data.
