The Priority Marine Feature (PMF) list contains 81 habitats and species considered to be of conservation importance in Scotland's seas. It includes many features which are characteristic of the Scottish marine environment, ranging from flame shell beds in coastal waters, to cold-water coral reefs of the deeper seas, and mobile species such as minke whale and basking shark.

Point data for Basking sharks from SPLASH tag 137653 deployed as part of the University of Exeter / Scottish Natural Heritage Basking shark satellite tagging project in 2014. SPLASH transmitting tags are data-archiving tags that transmit to the Argos system. They are used when both horizontal movement and additional information are required. The entire raw archived data set can be recovered if the tag is physically retrieved. Positional accuracy: Fastloc-GPS (100m or better). Date and timestamp are also recorded.
