Aggregates
Aggregates are mixtures of sand, gravel, crushed rock or other bulk minerals used generally in construction, principally as a component of concrete, and in civil engineering. Aggregates in Scotland usually come from land-based sources although a small amount of marine aggregates have been exploited historically in Scotland, sourced from the Tay and Forth.
Various maps are presented in this section to illustrate the historic aggregate areas in the Forth and Tay; the seabed sand and gravel resources; prospective sand and gravel resources; areas of sand suitable for fill or land reclamation applications where mud content is greater than 10%; coal resources; evaporite and metallic mineral resources.
