Automatic Identification System (AIS)
AIS is a maritime navigation safety communications system adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to provide vessel information, primarily for the purposes of maritime safety. AIS data are collected by various organisations and can be analysed to provide a source of spatial information about vessel movements within the geographical limits of the system.
Data layers show maps based on a Scottish wide analysis as well as some local locations, for example, port approaches.
