Average intensity (hours) of fishing using ICES VMS data sets

What is it: 

Marine Scotland has aggregated data based on gridded VMS data prepared by ICES. Fishing effort in hours was averaged for three groups of fishing method: bottom trawls, dredges and crustaceans caught by bottom trawl (i.e. nephrops). These show as three MS Maps NMPi layers:

  1. Average intensity (hours) of fishing with bottom trawls
  2. Average intensity (hours) of fishing with dredges
  3. Average intensity (hours) of fishing for Nephrops and crustaceans with bottom trawls

More Information: 

The ICES Secretariat collected relevant VMS (Vessel Monitoring System is a form of satellite tracking using transmitters onboard fishing vessels) and logbook data to produce, as a technical service to OSPAR, updated spatial data layers on fishing intensity/pressure. Improved data quality control checks were implemented. Standardized methods were used to produce the requested data layers.
