Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) - Diatoms - 1958 to 2015
This map layer has been supplied directly by Marine Scotland National Marine Plan interactive. You can obtain additional information about the layer on this page
The Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) is a robust and reliable instrument designed to capture plankton samples over huge areas of ocean. The CPR is usually towed from the stern of volunteer merchant ships such as RoRo and Container Ships. Marine Scotland hold some datasets from The Sir Alister Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science (SAHFOS) including the GIS data for the CPR data where they intersect with Scottish waters.
This layer displays total diatoms (all diatom taxa aggregated per sample) expressed as abundance categories below or above the average plus or minus the standard deviation.
