Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters - wave resource - annual mean significant wave height (m)
This map layer has been supplied directly by Marine Scotland National Marine Plan interactive. You can obtain additional information about the layer on this page
This layer is part of the dataset taken from the report 'Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Strategic Area: Marine Energy Resources' funded by The Crown Estate. The report is based on the outputs from a full hydrodynamic wave model and defines the marine renewable energy resource information at a regional scale. The modelling results have produced an enhanced definition of marine renewable energy resource with improvements of spatial resolution, underlying bathymetry and length of data series over that previously available in the Atlas of UK Marine Energy Resources (ABPmer 2008).
This layer displays the Annual Mean Significant Wave Height (mean annual wave height [trough to crest] of the highest third of the waves).
