Aquaculture is an increasingly important industry for Scotland,\u00a0helping to sustain economic growth in the rural and coastal communities of the north and west. Involving the farming or culturing of fish, molluscs, crustaceans and seaweed, aquaculture produces our most valuable food export. The Scottish aquaculture industry is led by Atlantic salmon farming, but also produces significant quantities of rainbow trout and mussels.
\n \nThe Scottish Government supports Scotland\u2019s aquaculture industry to achieve sustainable growth targets, with due regard to the marine environment, by 2020. The targets are to increase:

\n \nRelevant information such as main roads and ferry routes have also been included.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n \nThe map available below\u00a0has been created in a PDF document, this allows the included layers to be clicked on or off. When the map is first opened all the layers are\u00a0\u201con\u201d and\u00a0the viewer can then choose which ones are to be made visible by clicking on the \u201ceye\u201d icon. A PowerPoint document, also available below, gives instructions on how to use the map.
\n \nThe map will be updated regularly with new information from\u00a0Marine Scotland\u2019s aquaculture database. Updated information can also be received from stakeholders.
