Pelagic fish - Landed weight (tonnes) by rectangle 2018-2022

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

Landings by live weight (tonnes) for commercial fishing activity in Scottish seas of pelagic (midwater/oceanic) fish species, including UK registered fishing vessels wherever they land and non-UK vessels if landing into the UK, as recorded in last five years of published statistics. Data is redacted if less than five vessels operate within an ICES statistical rectangle (values = -1).

Data derived from logbooks and landing declarations provided to the UK fishing authorities as required under Council Regulation (EC) No. 1224/2009 (all over 10m vessels), and any forms required by licence conditions (UK under 10m vessels).

Users are recommended to zoom in to see the detail of the graph axes.  For each layer, the colour of the ICES rectangle represents the data for the most recent year. Rectangles cross-hatched indicate that fishing takes but the data are disclosive (cannot be displayed for reasons of commercial confidentiality).

Aquaculture - Lease agreements - Crown Estate Scotland

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

‘Lease/Lease Agreement’ is a legal agreement from Crown Estate Scotland whereby an area of foreshore or seabed is occupied by a third party (a 'tenant') for an agreed purpose, such as fish farming, and which gives consent for the tenant to develop the fish farm on the lease site(s), if other required permissions are gained.

This layer shows areas where there is a Crown Estate Scotland Lease/Lease Agreement in place for a finfish, shellfish, or other aquaculture site. It is updated quarterly (approx).

Aquaculture - Active marine aquaculture sites (31.05.2024)

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

This layer contains point data identifying the location of active finfish or shellfish farms around Scotland from the Fish Health Inspectorate Aquadat database. This includes fishery sites which are ponds or other installation where farmed fish are stocked for recreational fishing (either private or commercial). Active is the status of a site that is stocked or fallow with the intention of restocking in the foreseeable future.

Spatial Data is extracted from the Aquadat database maintained by the Fish Health Inspectorate of Marine Scotland. The point data online is regularly updated via an XML update.

Shoreline type - Intertidal zone with ESI code (OSCP) - December 2015

Marine Scotland Information NMPi icon

This layer displays a line dataset depicting the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) shoreline classification of the Scottish coastline for oil spill contingency planning. The shoreline type is zoom restricted to about 1:50,000. The Scottish coastline has been classified into five categories:

  • Rock and man-made
  • Sand, gravel and rock armour
  • Exposed tidal flats
  • Sheltered rock, man-made or rip rap (rock armour)
  • Sheltered tidal flats or salt marshes

The data has been adapted from the shoreline classification in table 3.2 of the BP Final Report "Environmental and Socio-economic Sensitivity Mapping for Oil Spill Preparedness and Response (OSPR)", modified to include the simple ESI code from the 2011 report on "Sensitivity mapping for oil spill response" published by International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA), International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IGP)
