Current Crown Estate Scotland leases for fin, shellfish and seaweed harvesting agreements

What is it: 

The layers show areas where there is a Crown Estate Scotland lease/lease agreement/ other agreement in place for

  1. a fin fish or shell fish farm
  2. seaweed harvesting / collecting (as Crown Estate Scotland owns about 50% of the foreshore, there may be other, privately owned foreshore, areas where seaweed is collected)

This layer is updated quarterly (approx).

‘Lease/Lease Agreement’ is a legal agreement from Crown Estate Scotland whereby an area of foreshore or seabed is occupied by a third party (a 'tenant') for an agreed purpose, such as fish farming, and which gives consent for the tenant to develop the fish farm on the lease site(s), if other required permissions are gained.

Scotland's Aquaculture Website has been developed in partnership by Marine Scotland, Crown Estate Scotland, Food Standards Scotland and SEPA to provide access to a range of information about aquaculture in Scotland.
