Sea Fisheries Statistics - Ports (2013 onwards)

The annual Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics report is aggregated into districts, which reflect the area of responsibility of the local fishery office. This dataset shows the approximate location (point) of the ports and creeks within each district. The districts are for illustrative purposes only. The dataset was updated in 2013 to reflect changes to Ullapool district and renaming Pittenweem district as Anstruther.

The annual Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics report is aggregated into districts, which reflect the area of responsibility of the local fishery office. This dataset shows the approximate location (point) of the ports and creeks within each district. The districts are for illustrative purposes only. This dataset aligns with the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 reports only.  Information was gathered from the Annual Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics and the Marine Scotland FIN database. Location data was digitised based on Ordnance Survey OpenData and discussions with fishery offices.

Economic Analysis - Marine Employment 2012 by Local Authority

The percentage of the population employed in the core marine sector varies significantly between local authorities. This layer shows core sector employment as a percentage of total employment for each local authority area for 2012.

Figures from Scottish Annual Business Statistics (SABS) and the Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES). SABS, sourced from the Annual Business Survey (ABS), allow detailed analysis of the structure and performance of businesses in Scotland. The BRES is the official source of employee and employment estimates by detailed geography and industry. Data are presented as core marine sector employment as a percentage of total employment. The core marine sector is defined as businesses whose operations are directly or indirectly dependent on the marine environment. It excludes oil and gas extraction.
