This data was prepared for the report 'Coull, K.A., Johnstone, R., and S.I. Rogers. 1998. Fisheries Sensitivity Maps in British Waters' which includes maps of the main spawning and nursery grounds for 14 commercially important species (cod, haddock, whiting, saithe, Norway pout, blue whiting, mackerel, herring, sprat, sandeels, plaice, lemon sole, sole and Norway lobster). During the late 1990s, a collaborative project between the national fisheries laboratories (CEFAS and the then Fisheries Research Services, Aberdeen), the UK Offshore Operator's Association (UKOOA), the Scottish Fishermen's Association (SFF) and the National Federation of Fishermen's Organisations (NFFO) produced the Fisheries Sensitivity Maps in British Waters. Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and Gas Importation and Storage Zone (GISZ) Limits adjacent to Scotland - EEZ Order 2013 |
The Gas Importation and Storage Zone and the Renewable Energy Zone generally follow the EEZ boundary. Under treaties with Denmark relating to the Faroe Islands the area to the north of the line specified (i.e between the EEZ and the GISZ and REZ) can only be utilised for the purposes of renewable energy and gas storage with the prior consent of Denmark. Baselines and closing bays - Internal waters adjacent to Scotland |
The Territorial Sea (Baselines) Order 2014 establishes the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea adjacent to the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man is measured in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The baseline is generally the low-water line around the coast, including the coast of all islands. This layer is extracted from the UKHO Law of the Sea department data.

The limit of Scotland, as defined in 126(1) of the Scotland Act 1998, is the Territorial Sea (12 mile limit). The Scottish Adjacent Waters Boundaries Order 1999 details the co-ordinates of the boundaries on the east coast (between Scotland and England near Berwick) and the west coast (between Scotland and England in the Solway firth and Scotland and Northern Ireland in the North Channel. |
