MSS Seminar 24/08/2017: Scottish Shelf Model and its applications
The Scottish Shelf Model (SSM) is a suite of models which together give a detailed physical description of Scottish waters. MSS are using outputs to provide an evidence base for a number of marine management issues, including understanding the biological connectivity of MPAs, and the migration of salmon. The models are also being modified to help understand the interactions of marine renewable energy activities with the marine environment. We aim to explain the SSM concept and what data are available to all, and then focus on a number of applications of the models. We will conclude by looking towards future developments and how the SSM is starting to be used by the wider marine science community and by industry.
