Marine Management Organisation (MMO) NE and NW plan areas

What is it:

The MMO was created by the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. Through its Newcastle upon Tyne and London offices, and local presence around the English coastline, the MMO has wide ranging responsibilities for fishing, licensing, marine nature conservation, marine pollution emergencies, marine planning and marine wildlife legislation.

The 'Marine Plan Areas' are 10 sub-areas of the 'English inshore and offshore marine planning regions'. The marine plan authority (the Secretary of State in England) is responsible for preparing marine plans for these 10 plan areas with responsibility for plan development delegated to The Marine Management Organisation.  The MS Maps NMPi layer only depicts the plan areas in the NE and NW of the English zone which are adjacent  to Scotland’s seas:

  • North East Marine Plan Area (Inshore)
  • North East Marine Plan Area (Offshore)
  • North West Marine Plan Area (Inshore)
  • North West Marine Plan Area (Offshore)
