Active aquaculture sites (OSCP) (Zoom Restricted) (23.09.2019) |
This layer contains point data identifying the location of active finfish or shellfish farms around Scotland from the Fish Health Inspectorate Aquadat database. This includes fishery sites which are ponds or other installation where farmed fish are stocked for recreational fishing (either private or commercial). Active is the status of a site that is stocked or fallow with the intention of restocking in the foreseeable future.
Spatial Data is extracted from the Aquadat database maintained by the Fish Health Inspectorate of Marine Scotland. The point data online is regularly updated via an XML update.

Annual Cycles of Physical, Chemical and Biological Parameters in Scottish Waters |
For over 100 years Marine Scotland, under various names, has conducted marine research in the waters around Scotland which has included the measurement of physical and chemical parameters at standard sections worked routinely over a number of years, and at ad hoc stations whose timing and location were determined by individual projects. The 'Scottish Marine and Freshwater Science Vol 4 No 1' paper presents summary tables of a selection of these parameters in twenty six sub-areas of Scottish waters selected because of their distinct hydrographic characteristics. Only data from 1960 have been used.
The layer describes areas of Scottish seas for which there are 'Annual Cycles of Physical, Chemical and Biological Parameters' available as part of the 'Scottish Marine and Freshwater Science Vol 4 No 1'. DOI: 10.7489/1511-1. The 'Feature Information' for each polygon will bring up an attribute table that includes the sea area name, a DOI (that takes you to the data from that area) and a url (that opens the data .csv file).

Seagrass beds - Zostera noltii beds in littoral muddy sand (Priority Marine Feature) (SNH WMS) |
The Priority Marine Feature (PMF) list contains 81 habitats and species considered to be of conservation importance in Scotland's seas. It includes many features which are characteristic of the Scottish marine environment, ranging from flame shell beds in coastal waters, to cold-water coral reefs of the deeper seas, and mobile species such as minke whale and basking shark.
This layer shows the distribution of Zostera noltii beds in littoral muddy sand. This habitat is sparsely distributed around Scotland but is present at various sites in the Moray Firth, Firth of Tay, Shetland and the west coast and Western Isles.

Water Framework Directive (WFD) Waterbody Classification 2007-2017 (SEPA) |
The Water Framework Directive (WFD) (2000/60/EC) established a new legal framework for the protection, improvement and sustainable use of rivers, lochs, transitional waters, coastal waters and groundwater across Europe in order to:
•prevent deterioration and enhance the status of aquatic ecosystems, including coastal waters (out to 3 nautical miles from the coast in Scotland)
•promote sustainable water use
•reduce pollution, and
•contribute to the mitigation of floods and droughts.
Scotland has 457 coastal water bodies and 50 transitional water bodies. Waters are classfied into High, Good, Moderate, Poor and Bad Status. All water bodies should have reached good status by 2015. This layer contains SEPA assessment data for water body classification from 2007 onwards and is configured to work with NMPi's time-aware functionality.
