- Salinity - 1-5 times/year
Background
The data from offshore surveys are used to understand the circulation in Scottish waters. The JoNSIS line extends east from the northern part of the Scottish mainland, and is a standard oceanographic line defined by the Joint North Sea Information System - hence the name.
The line is regularly monitoring for temperature and salinity, and two main water masses are identified on this line are illustrated in the image.
