Telecommunications Cables
What is it:
Telecommunication cables carry telephone calls, internet connections and data. An international network passes north and south of Shetland connecting Europe to North America, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. Scottish islands are generally connected to the mainland network by a combination of seabed cables and microwave transmission.
The MS MAPS NMPi map layer is updated regularly when data provided by KIS-ORCA. See layer name (in 'Maps' tab below) for date of last update. Cables which do not pass at all through the EEZ around Scotland are not shown.
