Shellfish water protected areas

What is it: 

A Designation Order (The Water Environment (Shellfish Water Protected Areas: Designation) (Scotland) Order 2013) identifes 84 waters as 'shellfish water protected areas'. Regulations (The Water Environment (Shellfish Water Protected Areas: Environmental Objectives etc.) (Scotland) Regulations 2013) on the setting of environmental objectives for those areas have also been made.

The Scottish Government has introduced a package of measures to ensure the continued protection and improvement of shellfish growing waters by integrating these within the river basin management planning process.
